Rich baby boomers jumped in with all-cash offers, and sellers scored huge windfalls as weary buyers pushed prices to new heights. After all, people have to move for a wide variety of life reasons; mortgage rates be damned. "The further and further we get from the peak of the market," Peterson told me, "the harder it is to deny what's happened." Mortgage rates haven't fallen — in fact, they've gone up about 0.6 percentage points since the start of the year. CNBC's Jim Cramer on Wednesday said a company's guidance can make or break its stock in this tricky market environment. As Wall Street senses a slowdown, guidance can have more impact on a stock than it should, according to Cramer. Cramer said that investors could potentially buy some of these stocks if the Federal Reserve were to start cutting interest rates. But to him, it's important to keep in mind how much soft guidance can affect stocks right now. "You need to understand that in this market, even though the guidance is just the guidance, right now the guidance is all that matters."

Arone spoke with Before the Bell to outline three things about markets right now “that investors should know, but probably don’t.”1. You write that investors might be surprised to hear that small- and mid-cap stocks have outperformed large-cap stocks over the past five months. Why do you think that’s surprising, and what does it say about markets? Most investors think that the S&P 500 has been outperforming everything else, largely dragged up by the performance of the Magnificent 7 (Amazon, Tesla, Alphabet, Meta, Apple, Microsoft and Nvidia). The big beneficiaries of that, I think, would be a surprise for most investors — those mid-cap stocks and small-cap stocks.

It is also evidence of a major reason why Russian troops have often fought poorly in the Ukraine war: they are not following their own playbook. Artem Priakhin/Getty ImagesAssessing current Russian doctrine is difficult. However, the problem may not have been Russian doctrine as much as the overall strategy of the Ukraine war. "There are plenty of aspects to their defense that are entirely consistent with their historical practice and doctrine," Boston said. If the Russian military was that bad, then maybe the Ukrainian military wasn't that good?

I spoke with Weaver about her anxiety and how her new book can give other people with anxiety a starting point for talking about it. Haley Weaver: At its core, anxiety wants to keep us safe — safe from disaster, safe from judgment, safe from rejection — the list goes on! Not to be meta, but my anxiety about sharing my anxiety was present throughout the entire writing process. Additionally, caring for anxiety may look different depending on how the anxiety presents — maybe it’s helping kids pinpoint helpful coping mechanisms. Back in the 19th century, however, this county was at the center of an illegal trade in poitín – or Irish moonshine. Inishowen in particular was such a hive of illegal activity that the area was jokingly referred to as the Urris Poitín Republic. Fed up with the heavy fines, the people of Urris declared themselves the independent nation of the “Urris Republic of Poitín” and sealed themselves in by collapsing the pass in 1812, McLaughlin-Doherty explains. The townspeople were able to be self-sufficient because of their farmlands and fishing, thus allowing the Urris Republic of Poitín to last for three years before the coup was ended in 1815. The Catholic Church, a stronghold in Ireland, was instrumental in the eventual curbing of illegal poitín production.

In February, Apple said it expected sales similar to last year's $94.84 billion during the same period and flat iPhone sales. In the December quarter, sales dropped 13% in Greater China, which includes Hong Kong and Taiwan. Analysts polled by FactSet expect $15.25 billion in China regional sales, which would be a 14% year-over-year decline. "In strong iPhone cycles, Apple's China revenues typically grow much faster than Apple overall, as Chinese consumers embrace the new phone," Sacconaghi wrote. Meanwhile, state statistics show iPhone sales falling 33% in February, the second consecutive month of declining shipments.

It's not just that it has been a down month (down 3.0% for the S & P 500, breaking a 5-month win streak). However, weaker does not mean down. The S & P, even in the weakest five months, was still up almost 2%. The bottom line: market timing is always a tricky affair. Many of these timing maxims could be trumped by an even better one: "It's time in the market that matters, not market timing."

Ultra-processed foods are linked to health problems such as cancer, type 2 diabetes, and obesity. Ultra-processed foods tend to be made from ingredients you wouldn't find in a regular kitchen and are manufactured using industrial techniques. "I think we're getting too bogged down with the term ultra-processed food, we just need to make it a bit simpler," Patel told Business Insider. It's also very important to look at food labels, Patel said, so that you actually know what you're eating. Ultra-processed foods make up 73% of the US food supply.
